How to Choose a Suitable ATC CNC Router?

Material Type

If you want to process common materials such as wood, acrylic, and PVC, a standard ATC CNC router is usually sufficient. These materials are relatively soft and can be easily machined with conventional equipment.

However, if you are working with composite panels, aluminum, or other metal materials, we suggest you choose a machine equipped with a higher-power spindle and a heavier machine bed. 

This is because metals are harder and require a stronger cutting force to achieve good machining results. At the same time, a more solid machine structure helps minimize vibration during operation, ensuring higher cutting accuracy.

Machining Complexity

For panel cutting, flat engraving, drilling, and blanking, a 3-axis ATC CNC router is recommended. This is because a 3-axis machine cannot rotate the workpiece and is mainly designed for 2D machining.

If you want to produce cylindrical carving, 3D reliefs, or irregular and complex shapes, a 4-axis ATC CNC router is the better choice. By rotating the workpiece, the tool can machine multiple sides, and this makes it ideal for high-end furniture and artistic applications.

Production Scale

For small to medium batch production, a disc-type ATC CNC router is usually enough. The disc tool magazine usually can hold 8–12 tools, and the tool changing speed is moderate. Although its production speed is not the fastest, it is already capable of meeting basic manufacturing needs.
